Regulatory Status
CUUSD has been deployed on the Ethereum blockchain in connection with a limited pilot initiative. The regulatory framework governing payment stablecoins continues to evolve, including under the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins Act (GENIUS Act) and any applicable implementing regulations.
Regulatory approval to operate as a permitted payment stablecoin issuer has not been granted and is not guaranteed. We intend to seek all applicable regulatory approvals and authorizations required for future issuance, redemption, participation and operational use of CUUSD. Any broader availability or operational use of CUUSD will remain subject to applicable legal, regulatory, supervisory and program requirements.
Intended Purpose
CUUSD is being designed as a payment stablecoin intended to support institutional payment, settlement, treasury and liquidity management use cases.
CUUSD is being developed to support regulated financial institutions, including credit unions and other eligible institutional participants.
CUUSD is not intended for:
- Retail consumer use
- Peer-to-peer consumer payments
- Investment purposes
- Speculative trading activities
CUUSD is intended to function as a utility-focused payment instrument and is not being developed as an investment product.
Intended Reserve Framework
Maintaining confidence, stability and transparency is a core design objective of the CUUSD initiative.
Subject to regulatory approval and final program design, CUUSD is intended to be supported by reserve assets designed to maintain a stable value relative to the U.S. dollar.
Current design objectives include:
- Reserve-backed support for issued stablecoins
