Introducing CUUSD

CUUSD is a U.S. dollar-denominated payment stablecoin being developed for institutional payment and settlement use cases. Deployed on blockchain infrastructure and intended for eligible institutional participants, CUUSD is designed to support efficient digital settlement while emphasizing operational resilience, transparency and responsible oversight. Future availability and functionality remain subject to applicable legal, regulatory and program requirements.

Note: CUUSD will be issued on a limited pilot basis prior to the GENIUS Act taking effect in 2027. To become fully GENIUS-compliant, CUUSD would require regulatory approval as a “Permitted Payment Stablecoin Issuer.” Applicable implementing regulations are not yet final. Regulatory approval is not guaranteed.

This website communicates the current intent for the CUUSD product. All information on this site is illustrative and non-binding. Material changes may be made to CUUSD program design, policies and availability.

Advancing Payments for the Credit Union System and Beyond

CUUSD is being explored as a potential way for credit unions to participate in a safe, secure, efficient digital value exchange while staying grounded in the cooperative principles that define the industry. Intended for shared participation, CUUSD strives to support innovation without compromising trust.

CUUSD stablecoins may, if authorized, also be used by institutional and corporate stakeholders outside the credit union system. Widespread usage has the potential to increase the utility, liquidity and acceptance of CUUSD, which would benefit the credit union system.
